The Elite Sport Scholar Award is specifically designed for postgraduate and international students who showcase performance, in sports (including both playing and coaching). Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Elite Sport Scholar Award please take note of the following points;
- Language Requirement; Proficiency, in English
- Eligible Countries; All countries
In order to be considered for a scholarship athletes must meet the criteria;
- Currently studying or planning to start studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University (in any course).
- Involved in a recognized British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) sport and actively contribute towards the University's BUCS objectives.
- Competing at a level. Demonstrating significant potential to reach the highest level in their respective sport (e.g. national/international/professional).
- Recommended by their National Governing Body (NGB) coach and/or the Universitys coach within their sport.
- Scholarship recipients are expected to compete for Cardiff Met in BUCS competitions as part of their commitment.
- Moreover students are also expected to represent Cardiff Met at events and actively participate in promotional and marketing activities organized by the School of Sports and Health Science. Failure to fulfill these expectations may result in scholarship reconsideration.
- Additionally it is essential that you are enrolled as a full time student at Cardiff Metropolitan University and possess your Student ID Card for processing catering or general campus allowances.
- Please note that payment of the award during years 2 and 3 is contingent upon progression, onto the year of study.
- The award payment, in years 2 and 3 depends on how much you progress in your sporting journey, which will be assessed by the Performance Sport Panel. Usually the award doesn't extend to a year. However we will consider applicants who are enrolled in a 4 year program (including Foundation) as those studying part time or pursuing a postgraduate program.
- The award will not be given to individuals who have to retake a year unless there are reasons, for all the retaken credits. For information about reasons please refer to the Academic Handbook.
- Every year you will need to submit an application (the form will be provided by the Head of Performance Sport).
- If you are studying at a franchise college this award is not available to you. Please get in touch with your college to discuss any bursaries or scholarships that may be available.
- You cannot receive both the Elite Sport Scholar award and the Postgraduate Scholarship at the time.
- The benefits of this award will be customized in order to support students in reaching their potential in their chosen sport.
- A panel, consisting of the Head of Performance Sport Students Union Sports Manager and an academic staff member will determine who receives this scholarship.
How can I apply for the Elite Sport Scholar Award?
Please follow these steps;
(1) Complete and submit the application form for the Elite Sport Scholar Award
(2) Send it to the Head of Performance Sport along with evidence of your performance standards and contact details, for your coach so that a recommendation can be requested.
Once assessments are. Before your course begins you will receive the confirmation regarding the receipt of your award.
