The Woods Hole Summer Fellowship is an opportunity, for students who're, in their final year of undergraduate studies. It provides funding for them to engage in research during the summer.
As part of the fellowship all student fellows are expected to deliver a progress report through the summer. Additionally at the end of the program, they must submit a written report detailing their research findings. Furthermore each student fellow is also required to share their results with the public through either a presentation or a poster presentation.
All Fellows must attend both the Summer Lecture Series and the Ethics, in Science Workshop. Additionally Fellows are encouraged to participate in the seminars and events organized by the Woods Hole scientific community during the summer. This allows them to gain insights into aspects of marine science.
The Woods Hole Summer Fellowship is granted for conducting a research project under the guidance of a member from either the Scientific or Senior Technical Staff. Usually these projects are proposed by the advisor. Mutually agreed upon by both the student and advisor. Advisors make every effort to assist students in selecting a research project that can yield results within one summer timeframe. Fellows have an opportunity to choose and pursue a research project with access to, over two hundred practicing research scientists, engineers and state of the art facilities provided by an oceanographic institution.
