Scholarship Benefits

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program offers the following benefits, to recipients;

  • The Economy class air travel between your home country and host institute at the beginning. End of your study program. Additionally scholars will receive a travel allowance of US $500 for each trip.
  • Tuition fees for your graduate program and basic medical insurance are provided by the university.
  • A monthly allowance while on campus to cover all living expenses, including accommodation, food and books. The amount of this allowance varies depending on the host country.

Please note that all JJ/WBGSP scholarships cover either the duration of the graduate program or a maximum of two years whichever's shorter.

The JJ/WBGSP scholarship does not include coverage, for;

  • The costs associated with a VISA application may include;
  •  Expenses, for bringing and supporting family members of the scholar.
  •  Fees for curricular courses or training.
  •  Costs for courses that do not fulfill the minimum credit requirements for earning a graduate degree.
  •  Language training that is not supplied by the graduate program.
  •  Additional travel expenses during the study program.
  • The Costs connected to research supplementary educational materials, field trips, participation in workshops/seminars or internships.
  •  Expenses for equipment, like computers.
  • Additionally there may be fees associated with obtaining a permit.

Eligibility Criteria 

To be able to qualify for the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program. JJWBGSP applicants must fulfill the following eligibility requirements;

  • You must be in perfect health.
  • A Bachelors degree (or equivalent) earned at 3 years prior to the Application Deadline is necessary.
  • Having a minimum of 3 years of work experience in a development related field after earning a Bachelors degree (or equivalent) is required.
  • At the time of submitting your scholarship application you need to be employed in a time paid position related to development work. The only exception to this requirement applies to nationals from developing countries listed as Fragile and Conflict States in the updated list provided in the Application Guidelines, for each scholarship call.
  • To be eligible, for the scholarship you must have already been accepted unconditionally (except for funding) into one of the masters programs, at a university outside of your home country and country of residence. Make sure to upload your letter of admission before submitting your application.
  • To be eligible, for the position of Executive Director, it is important that you or any of your family members, including your parents, siblings, children, aunts, uncles, nieces or nephews are not currently holding any appointments, within the World Bank Group. Please note that these eligibility criteria are strictly followed and no exceptions will be made.
