TechWomen Program for Emerging Leaders, USA 2024

The TechWomen Program for Emerging Leaders is dedicated to empowering connecting and supporting the generation of women leaders in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). It provides them with access and opportunities to advance their careers pursue their aspirations and serve as role models for women and girls in their communities. By enabling women and girls around the world to realize their potential in the tech industry TechWomen aligns with the United States global commitment towards advancing gender equality.


TechWomen brings together emerging women leaders from Africa, Central and South Asia and the Middle East in STEM fields with their counterparts in the United States. Through mentorship programs and exchanges TechWomen facilitates connections while equipping participants with networks, resources and knowledge to reach their full potential.


With its mission to empower connect and support women leaders in STEM fields (science, technology engineering, and mathematics) TechWomen strives to provide them with access and opportunities for career advancement. In doing it aims to help these women fulfill their dreams while inspiring females, within their communities.


Throughout the duration of the five week program participants have the opportunity to take part in project based mentorships with companies located in either the San Francisco Bay Area or Chicago. Additionally they can attend development workshops and networking events. To wrap up the program participants will travel to Washington, DC for meetings and special events.


Over the twelve years TechWomen has welcomed, than 1,000 women from countries such as Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Yemen and Zimbabwe as participants.


This opportunity is a fellowship program with an application deadline of January 10th in 2024.


Value & Duration of Award:


The TechWomen program covers expenses including roundtrip airfare from the participants home country to the United States. Additionally it includes airfare from either San Francisco or Chicago to Washington,D.C. 


The program also provides housing in San Francisco,Sunnyvale (California),Emeryville (California) or Chicago(Illinois) during the mentorship period. 


Meals and incidentals are also covered while staying in Washington,D.C. 


Public transportation expenses to the participants host company and local transportation costs for group program events in San Francisco Bay Area,Chicago and Washington D.C are also taken care of by TechWomen.


However it should be noted that participants are responsible for any costs related to program activities such as sightseeing,cultural events and any personal domestic or international travel outside of the program.


Regarding housing arrangements, for TechWomen participants the location will depend on where their host company's located. Participants will have an apartment shared with another Emerging Leader.


Each participant will have their bedroom while the common areas such, as the living room and kitchen will be shared.

Eligibility


To be considered for the TechWomen Program, for Emerging Leaders applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria;


1. Be women who have two years of full time professional experience in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. Please note that internships or unpaid work experience does not count towards fulfilling this requirement.


2. Hold a minimum of a bachelors degree or a four year university degree (or its equivalent).


3. Possess proficiency in both written and spoken English.


4. Be citizens and permanent residents of Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan or Zimbabwe at the time of application and throughout their participation in the program.


5. Eligibility to obtain a U.S. J 1 exchange visitor visa is required.


6. Have not applied for a visa to the United States (except for the Diversity Immigrant Visa or "visa lottery") within the five years.


7. Not hold U.S citizenship. Be a permanent resident of the United States.
